Info: Motorcycling is a common way for visitors to Ladakh to see the region’s breathtaking scenery and experience the local culture at their own leisure. The following are some tips for motorcycling in Ladakh:

  • Roads: The roads in Ladakh might be difficult, so you’ll need to be a confident rider. There are roads that are steep and rocky, while others are narrow and twisting. Always pay attention to your surroundings and adopt safety measures when driving.
  • Elevation: Ladakh is situated at a lofty altitude, with some of the region’s passes towering above 16,000 feet. Riders need to take their time getting used to the altitude and should know the warning signs of altitude sickness.
  • Permit: To enter Ladakh, tourists must first get an Inner Line Permit (ILP). The same goes for cyclists. You can get the permission from the appropriate authorities or online.
  • Safety: Protect yourself by always donning the mandatory headgear, gloves, and outerwear. It is recommended that riders bring food, drink, and a first aid kit just in case.
  • Best Time: Motorcycling in Ladakh is best done between June and September, during the warm summer months. All passes and highways are passable, and the weather is fine.
  • The Leh-Manali highway, the Leh-Srinagar highway, and Via Shinkula Pass are the routes for motorcyclists to reach Ladakh.

Riding a motorbike around Ladakh is, in general, an exciting and unique way to see the region. To have a safe and pleasurable ride, riders must be aware of the obstacles and take the required measures.
